Data security has always been paramount to Dedoose. As clearly documented in our terms of service, Dedoose employs the highest levels of data encryption for a web application in all data storage, back up, and transmission. However, until now, all of what are called ‘encryption keys’ are stored in Dedoose to assist users in project recovery and offer other project specific support when needed. We have now added the ability to create projects with an encryption key only you know. This makes it impossible for anyone other than you, and whoever you share your key with, to access your data under any circumstances.

While our existing and default method of data storage employs many levels of robust encryption, some users have needed even more– particularly those working in healthcare, military, or other areas where the data privacy requirements imposed by organization, institution, government, or funding agency policies are exceptional. We are happy to announce we can now support even the strictest security and encryption requirements.

Dedoose is still a fully cloud-based solution, but this new feature adds another layer of encryption for deeper data privacy where extraordinary sensitivities exist. Simply put, by using this new feature, you will hold the encryption key and you will need to enter your key in order to view/decrypt your project and data. This gives you exclusive control over who can view your project, as only you can share the key.

Project Specific Encryption is Free:

There is no additional charge for this premium feature and it can be easily activated when creating a new Dedoose project.

IMPORTANT NOTE:

The last thing to note is that Dedoose, and Dedoose staff has no access to your project encryption key, and this key is not stored anywhere on Dedoose. As such, there is no way for us to assist in decrypting or recovering project data if the key is lost. If you lose your key, we will not be able to recover your project for you. Please be careful and store your key in a very safe place.
